The short version of secretagogue fits in a sentence. The long version — which is the one that helps — is below.
Reviewed 2025-09-04. Anything still debated is marked as such rather than presented as settled.
Structural features distinguish the molecule from earlier secretagogues. An alpha-aminoisobutyric acid residue near the N-terminus and a D-naphthylalanine substitution increase receptor affinity, while C-terminal amidation improves resistance to exopeptidases. These modifications are associated with reduced stimulation of appetite and of the hypothalamic-pituitary-adrenal axis compared with hexarelin or growth hormone releasing peptide-6. Whether the same profile applies at every dose level studied is a matter of ongoing investigation rather than settled consensus.
Ipamorelin is a synthetic pentapeptide that acts as an agonist at the ghrelin receptor, also called the growth hormone secretagogue receptor type 1a. Its sequence incorporates non-natural residues, which slows enzymatic breakdown relative to short native peptides. In laboratory and early clinical work the compound is described as a selective growth hormone secretagogue because it raises growth hormone with comparatively little effect on other pituitary outputs. The degree to which that selectivity holds across species and dosing regimens remains an open question in the published literature.
Signal transduction begins when the peptide binds GHSR-1a on pituitary somatotrophs. The receptor couples to Gq/11 proteins, activating phospholipase C, which cleaves phosphatidylinositol bisphosphate into inositol trisphosphate and diacylglycerol. Inositol trisphosphate releases calcium from intracellular stores, and the resulting rise in cytosolic calcium drives growth hormone vesicle fusion. Concurrent Gs coupling and cyclic AMP elevation have also been reported, and the relative contribution of each arm to the overall secretory response is not fully settled.
Lyophilized material is generally held at minus twenty degrees Celsius or lower, protected from moisture and light. Repeated excursions to room temperature cause condensation inside the vial and gradual moisture uptake, both of which shorten shelf life. Containers should be allowed to equilibrate before opening so that water does not condense on the solid. Dividing a batch into single-use aliquots reduces freeze-thaw cycling. Solid peptide handled this way is usually considered stable for months to years, while the same material in solution degrades on a much shorter timescale.
Common solvents for laboratory work include water, buffered saline, and dimethyl sulfoxide. Once dissolved, the peptide is exposed to hydrolysis and oxidation, and alkaline conditions accelerate breakdown. Low-binding plasticware and the addition of a carrier protein reduce losses to container surfaces, which can otherwise be substantial at low concentrations. Solutions are typically kept cold and used within days. Investigators working with the compound generally prepare fresh working dilutions rather than storing dilute stocks, and they avoid repeated warming of the same vial.

Mass spectrometry confirms identity and reveals structural deviations that chromatography alone can miss. Positive-mode electrospray ionisation generally yields multiply charged ions whose deconvoluted mass is checked against the theoretical value. Amino acid analysis, and enzymatic digestion with subsequent fragment mapping, provide independent confirmation of sequence and of the terminal amide. Analysts take care to separate the target from deletion sequences, which may differ by one residue and therefore by only a small mass increment.
The lyophilised solid is normally held at -20 °C or colder, shielded from light and moisture. Stability in that state is measured in years, although shelf life depends on residual water content and the container seal. Once dissolved, the peptide is more fragile: aqueous solutions are commonly kept at 2-8 °C and used within days to weeks, and repeated freeze-thaw cycling is avoided. Strongly acidic or basic conditions accelerate hydrolysis, and prolonged exposure to them can strip the terminal amide.
Purity assessment for this peptide relies mainly on reversed-phase high-performance liquid chromatography. A C18 column with a water-acetonitrile gradient containing trifluoroacetic acid separates the target from truncated sequences and oxidation products. Detection near 214 nm exploits the amide backbone, while the aromatic side chains allow additional monitoring close to 280 nm. Reported purity values depend on the method, so a certificate of analysis carries weight only when gradient, column and integration parameters are given.
In animal and early human studies, ipamorelin produces pulsatile growth hormone release and a secondary rise in insulin-like growth factor 1. The magnitude and duration of that rise depend on route, sampling schedule, and the baseline endocrine state of the subject. Whether repeated exposure alters the response over time is not firmly settled, since some reports describe stable pulsatility while others note attenuation. Most published data come from small samples, which limits the strength of any general claim about long-term behavior.
Ipamorelin is a synthetic pentapeptide that belongs to the growth hormone secretagogue class of compounds. Its sequence is Aib-His-D-2-Nal-D-Phe-Lys-NH2, a structure that differs from natural ghrelin in length and in the presence of non-natural amino acid residues. Early laboratory work described it as a comparatively selective agent that stimulates growth hormone release with limited effect on other pituitary hormones. The compound is supplied as a lyophilized solid for research use and has no identified natural source in the body.
== Measurement == Though relative atomic masses are defined for neutral atoms, they are measured (by mass spectrometry) for ions: hence, the measured values must be corrected for the mass of the electrons that were removed to form the ions, and also for the mass equivalent of the electron binding energy, Eb/muc2. The total binding energy of the six electrons in a carbon-12 atom is 1030.1089 eV = 1.6504163×10−16 J: Eb/muc2 = 1.1058674×10−6, or about one part in 10 million of the mass of the atom. Before the 2019 revision of the SI, experiments were aimed to determine the value of the Avogadro constant for finding the value of the unified atomic mass unit.
The rearmament of West Germany was achieved in the early 1950s. Its main promoter was Konrad Adenauer, the chancellor of West Germany, with France the main opponent. Washington had the decisive voice. It was strongly supported by the Pentagon (the US military leadership), and weakly opposed by President Truman; the State Department was ambivalent. The outbreak of the Korean War in June 1950 changed the calculations and Washington now gave full support. That also involved naming Dwight D. Eisenhower in charge of NATO forces and sending more American troops to West Germany. There was a strong promise that West Germany would not develop nuclear weapons. Widespread fears of another rise of German militarism necessitated the new military to operate within an alliance framework under NATO command. In 1955, Washington secured full German membership of NATO. In May 1953, Lavrentiy Beria, by then in a government post, had made an unsuccessful proposal to allow the reunification of a neutral Germany to prevent West Germany's incorporation into NATO, but his attempts were cut short after he was executed several months later during a Soviet power struggle. The events led to the establishment of the Bundeswehr, the West German military, in 1955.
=== Highway safety === Safety grooving, the cutting of grooves in concrete to increase traction and prevent injury, was first developed to reduce aircraft accidents on wet runways. Represented by the International Grooving and Grinding Association, the industry expanded into highway and pedestrian applications. Safety grooving originated at Langley Research Center, which assisted in testing the grooving at airports and on highways. Skidding was reduced, stopping distance decreased, and a vehicle's cornering ability on curves was increased. The process has been extended to animal holding pens, parking lots, and other potentially slippery surfaces.
It was published by Carl Linnaeus in 1753 with Tulipa gesneriana L. as the type species. Tulipa is a genus of the lily family, Liliaceae, once one of the largest families of monocots, but which molecular phylogenetics has reduced to a monophyletic grouping with only 15 genera. Within Liliaceae, Tulipa is placed within Lilioideae, one of three subfamilies, with two tribes. Tribe Lilieae includes seven other genera in addition to Tulipa.
In 1871, Thomas Lipton (1848–1931) of Glasgow, Scotland, used his small savings to open a shop; by the 1880s the business had grown to more than 200 stores. In 1929, the Lipton grocery retail business was one of the companies that merged with Home and Colonial Stores, Maypole Dairy Company, Vyes & Boroughs, Templetons and Galbraiths & Pearks to form a food group with more than 3,000 shops. The group traded in the High Street under various names, but was registered on the UK stock market as Allied Suppliers; Allied Stores was originally formed in 1929 to act as the group's purchasing arm. Lipton's became a supermarket chain focused on small towns. Allied was acquired by Argyll Foods in 1982; the supermarket business was rebranded as Presto during the 1980s.

==== The Yellow Emperor's Classic of Internal Medicine (475 BC – 8 AD) ==== Huángdì Nèijīng (黃帝內經), or The Yellow Emperor's Classic of Internal Medicine, is a fundamental ancient text in Chinese medicine and a major book of Daoist philosophy and lifestyle. It is generally dated to the late Warring States period (475–221 BC) and the Western Han dynasty (206 BC – 8 AD). The text named the condition xiāo kě (消渴; "wasting-thirst") and elaborated on it through 25 clauses. It recorded such symptoms as "three increases [excess] and one decrease [loss]": excessive thirst (polydypsia), excessive hunger (polyphagia), excessive urine (polyuria), and weight loss. Three sub-phases of xiāo kě were given, characterized by their dominant symptoms. These roughly correspond to the progressive stages of diabetes in modern-day Western medicine.
In comparison, combined hormonal contraception methods (oral pill, vaginal ring, transdermal patch, etc.) have a failure rate of about 2% with perfect use and 4-7% with typical use. Barrier methods, such as the male condom, have a failure rate of approximately 13% and fertility awareness methods (often referred to as natural family planning or the rhythm method), have a failure rate of 22%. Once an IUD is removed, even after long-term use, fertility returns to normal rapidly. Hormonal IUDs often reduce menstrual bleeding by up to 90% or stop menstruation altogether. Users may experience daily spotting following insertion, and it can take up to six months to see a decrease in bleeding. Copper IUDs are preferred by some as a non-hormonal birth control option, but they can increase the amount and duration of menstrual bleeding by approximately 50% and lead to worsening of menstrual cramps. More serious potential complications of both types of IUD include expulsion (3–5%) and perforation of the uterus (one in 1,000). IUDs can also be used as emergency contraception for the prevention of pregnancy immediately following unprotected sex. Copper IUDs are considered the most effective form of emergency contraception, with only 0.1% of those with a copper IUD placed within 5 days of unprotected sex becoming pregnant. Hormonal IUDs are also an acceptable method for emergency contraception; however, there is less data regarding effectiveness.
In the late 1970s, the Peruvian communist party Shining Path developed and synthesised Mao Zedong Thought into Marxism–Leninism–Maoism, a contemporary variety of Marxism–Leninism that is a supposed higher level of Marxism–Leninism that can be applied universally.
The active Ras protein phosphorylates several proteins, along with the serine/threonine kinase, Raf. Raf in turn activates the MAPK cascade to facilitate ribosomal s6 kinase (RSK) activation and transcriptional regulation. Both Akt and RSK, components of the PI3K-Akt and MAPK pathways respectively, act to phosphorylate the cyclic AMP response element binding protein (CREB) transcription factor. Phosphorylated CREB translocates into the nucleus and mediates increased expression of anti-apoptotic proteins, thus promoting NGF-mediated cell survival. However, in the absence of NGF, the expression of pro-apoptotic proteins is increased when the activation of cell death-promoting transcription factors such as c-Jun are not suppressed by the aforementioned NGF-mediated cell survival pathways.

The three substrates of this enzyme are artemisinic aldehyde, reduced nicotinamide adenine dinucleotide phosphate (NADPH), and a proton. Its products are (11R)-dihydroartemisinic aldehyde and oxidised NADP+. This enzyme is present in Artemisia annua.
The Social Democrats won the election with a minority government and could not gather a strong enough mandate for the incorporation of South Schleswig. This outcome created outrage within the Danish population and was considered a scandal. Due to the forced migrations of Germans between 1944 and 1950, Schleswig-Holstein took in almost a million refugees after the war, increasing its population by 33%. A pro-Danish political movement arose in Schleswig, with transfer of the area to Denmark as an ultimate goal. This was supported neither by the British occupation administration nor the Danish government. In 1955, the German and Danish governments issued the Bonn-Copenhagen Declarations confirming the rights of the ethnic minorities on both sides of the border. Conditions between the nationalities have since been stable and generally respectful.
Throughout West Africa, Indigo was the foundation of centuries-old textile traditions. From the Tuareg nomads of the Sahara to Cameroon, clothes dyed with indigo signified wealth. Women dyed the cloth in most areas, with the Yoruba of Nigeria and the Mandinka of Mali particularly well known for their expertise. Among the Hausa male dyers, working at communal dye pits was the basis of the wealth of the ancient city of Kano, and they can still be seen plying their trade today at the same pits. The Tuareg are sometimes called the "Blue People" because the indigo pigment in the cloth of their traditional robes and turbans stained their skin dark blue. Palestine and Iran also historically produced large amounts of indigo. In Palestine, it was a major industry since at least the 17th century. It was used to dye southern women's dresses, coats in Galilee, pants all over, and men's cloaks. A similar blue-to-black shift occurred due to British colonialism, though blue is still seen on traditional Palestinian dresses with some frequency in synthetic form. Widows would dye their dresses with indigo to cover the other colors, and wear blue veils and belts. Blue was also associated with unmarried girls, whose dresses were embroidered with it.
Catatonia is a neuropsychiatric syndrome most commonly seen in people with underlying mood disorders such as major depressive disorder, or psychotic disorders such as schizophrenia. People with catatonia exhibit abnormal movement and behaviors that vary from person to person, and which may fluctuate in intensity within a single episode. People with catatonia appear withdrawn, with limited interaction with the outside world and difficulty processing information. They may be nearly motionless for days on end or perform repetitive, purposeless movements. People may exhibit very different sets of behaviors and still be diagnosed with catatonia. Treatment with benzodiazepines or electroconvulsive therapy is most effective and leads to remission of symptoms in most cases. There are different subtypes of catatonia, which represent groups of symptoms that commonly occur together. These include stuporous/akinetic catatonia, excited catatonia, malignant catatonia, and periodic catatonia. Catatonia has historically been related to schizophrenia, but is most often seen in mood disorders. It is now known that catatonic symptoms are nonspecific and may occur in other mental, neurological, and medical conditions. The prognosis of catatonia is typically good, with complete remission in some patients; however, outcomes vary depending on the underlying disorder.
By that time, internal political life in Serbia was fully dominated by the Communist Party of Serbia, formed in May 1945 as a branch of the ruling Communist Party of Yugoslavia. In order to suppress remaining monarchist opposition, communists initiated the creation of a wider political coalition, thus establishing the People's Front of Yugoslavia (PFY), in August 1945. Other political parties were soon dissolved, and remnants of political life were constrained within the PFY, that was under full control of the ruling Communist Party.

Both molecules activate the same receptor, GHSR-1a, but they share little sequence identity. Ghrelin is a 28-amino-acid hormone carrying a distinctive acyl modification, whereas ipamorelin is a short synthetic peptide. The shared target explains overlapping endocrine effects, while the different structures account for differences in metabolic stability and receptor selectivity.
Early animal and human studies reported growth hormone release at levels that produced small changes in cortisol, prolactin and adrenocorticotropic hormone. That contrast with older secretagogues gave rise to the selectivity label. The observation is consistent across several reports but rests on a limited number of small studies.
Plasma peptidases cleave the molecule into smaller fragments, and reported half-lives in human studies are on the order of a couple of hours. The identity and activity of individual breakdown products have not been fully mapped. Questions about tissue-level clearance remain open.
It is reported as the percentage of total peak area in a reversed-phase chromatogram. That number does not reflect water content, residual solvents, or counterions. The actual peptide content is therefore lower than the stated purity figure suggests.
